SRA Awards 2023

This was my third year Directing the Awards, live from the O2 Indigo. The ceremony this year featured 16 awards, and two music acts, 'Only the Poets' and 'Bellah Mae'. For this project, our job is to feed 2 IMAG screens, as well as feed an aux for the big screen behind.

For this, we had 3 RF cameras, alongside 5 fixed position PTZ cameras. For the music performances, we utilised 1 RF camera on the stage, getting up close and personal with the musicians, offering shots of the drummer/guitarists etc. We also had one camera, floating in front of the stage, giving us great shots of the lead VOX, as well as crowd shots. The last camera was positioned at the back of the room on a tripod, offering wider shots, lead VOX and some nice moves.

During the ceremony, the presenters also roam around the room, conducting interviews and presenting links, covered by 2 RF cameras alongside an assistant with a panel light.

The venue provides a logistical challenge, in that you must direct from within the event space, which during music performances makes communication difficult, and requires a good relationship with the operators. Thankfully, over the 3 years, most of the crew has remained similar and we are used to the added challenge of compromised talkback!
